讲座人介绍：

Mazhar Islam is a assistant professor of management, A.B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, who received a doctorate in strategic management from University of Minnesota in 2011. His article “Signaling by Early Stage Startups: US Government Research Grants and Venture Capital Funding”, co-authored by Frementh and Marcus, was published in Journal of Business Venturing, 33(1): 35-51, 2018, and others were published in some prestigious international journals, such as Research Policy, Business Politics, Asian Business and Management. He simultaneously holds the post of reviewer of Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies.

主讲内容：

High growth startups are an engine of economic growth. Yet, a large portion of these startups fail to scale, destroying billions of dollars. Governance issues stemming from external financing are often the causes of failure. In this session, we will focus on the key aspects of external financing and discuss how such financing influences the ownership structures and governance mechanisms. We will especially focus on the plausible incentive misalignments between the founders and different types of investors (angels, VCs, corporate venture capitalists). We will also assess the effects of such misalignments on the survival and growth of these startups.
